Bareboat Charter: Freightage of the bareboat. Ship freightage modality.

Big Bag: Flexible container. Made, usually, of polyethylene.

Bill of Lading / BL: Acknowledgement of Shipment, Maritime Acknowledgement, document from the shipowner, filled by the shipper and signed by the ship's commander or gent, confirming the receipt of a certain cargo on board (or for shipment) and specifying, among many other details, the freight paid or to be paid at the destination. It is, at the same time, a mate's receipt, a possession title and an evidence of transport contract, whose clauses are incorporated into the same.

Booking: Reserve, closure.

BPO - Business Process Outsourcing: Outsourcing of businesses processes, it is a new model for the contracting of logistic services.

Breakbulk: Conventional transport system of cargo in general. i.e. transported loose and in individual volumes, differentiating itself, mainly, from when the same is transported in containers. System of inspection of cargo used by the cargo superintendent, when the volumes are opened for such.

Broker: Intermediary agent.

Bulk Cargo: Loose cargo and without any conditioning, it may be solid or liquid.

Bulk Carrier: Type of ship specialized in the transport of bulk solid cargo, having for that purpose wide and unobstructed cellars and especially arranged to "settle" the stowed cargo.

Bulk Container: Kind of container with openings (hatches) on the ceiling, used to condition bulk solid cargo.

Bunker: Fuel for ships, which, in the case of engine-driven ships, includes fuel oil and maritime diesel.

Bunker Surcharge: Overtax on fuel, additional to the freight charged by the shipowner from shippers, on occasions in which the prices of fuel are oscillating, in terms of percentage over the same.
