GLOSSARY
I
IATA: International Air Transport
Association, an entity that regulates and coordinates the air
transport service internationally.
ICC: International Chamber of Commerce.
IMO (International Maritime Organization):
Currently called IMCO, an intergovernmental organization in charge
of promoting safety on the sea, the efficiency of navigation and
to prevent sea pollution, among other things.
Import License: Document issued
by the import authorities of a country, authorizing the importer
to undertake his operations.
Inbound: Coming in, an arrival (ship).
Inbound Logistics: Entry logistic
flow, it is the movement of materials from suppliers to production
processes and storage facilities. Also called materials administration.
INCOTERMS (International Commercial Terms):
Series of terms related to export and import contracts, established
by the International Chamber of Commerce. Get to know the terms
at the end of the list.
Inland: Transport undertaken internally
in the country.
Inlet: Anchorage, that is, a place
next to the port, where ships wait for authorization to moor in
the wharf.
Insulated Container - Refrigerated Container:
Refrigerated or chilling container, type of isolated container
and equipped with a refrigeration engine, used for the transport
of refrigerated or perishable cargoes.
Insurance: The contract or the risk
assumed by the insurer through the payment of a premium by the
insured party.
Integrated Logistics: It usually
involves the withdrawal of the stock from manufacturing facilities
and deposits and its distribution to consumers. The execution
includes the meeting of different transport modals, systems and
distribution in order to obtain the optimal solution.
Intermodal: Movement of freights
using a combination of transport modes. Each transporter is responsible
for its stretch of travel.
Intermodal Transport: A single service
rendered by different means or vehicles. for ex. road-maritime
transport.
International Trade Logistics: It
includes the automation of administrative processes, significantly
complex due to the need to transport commodities through national
frontiers. The system includes cost calculations and the compliance
with customs regulations.
ISO (International Standards Organization):
International organization that establishes technical norms and
standards followed internationally, such as for ex. the legal
measurements of containers in world trade.
